This Privacy Policy explains how Preface ("we," "our," or "us") handles information when you use our iOS application. By using Preface, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Data Preface Collects or Uses

1.1 On-device data (stored locally)

Preface does not require an account. The information you enter or select in the app is stored on your device to enable the app's features, including:

In-app blocklist settings (apps you choose to block/intervene on)
Intervention history and related stats (e.g., which app was interrupted, timestamps/dates, and whether you proceeded)
Quote preferences and reading data (e.g., selected packs, quotes shown/read, favorites)
Onboarding/profile responses you provide (e.g., your name, age, self-reported screen time hours, focus type, survey answers, and your recommended pack)
Ritual/intervention state used by iOS automation (managed on-device so the intervention flow behaves correctly)

This on-device information is intended to stay on your device and is used to provide the experience in the app.

1.2 Subscription data (handled through third parties)

If you subscribe to Preface Pro, subscription status and purchase validation are handled through:

Apple App Store (billing and payment processing)
RevenueCat (subscription management/entitlements)

We do not have access to your payment card details. RevenueCat and Apple may collect and process information required to manage subscriptions and entitlements, as described in their respective privacy policies.

1.3 Diagnostics and system-provided data

Apple may collect certain device/app diagnostics and usage-related information as part of App Store distribution and system features (for example, crash/performance data). This is governed by Apple's policies.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

Provide and personalize Preface's features (blocklist, interventions, quotes, stats)
Manage and verify subscriptions (through Apple/RevenueCat)
Improve stability and performance

We do not use your on-device data for advertising or to build an advertising profile.

3. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share limited information with third parties only when needed for core functionality, including:

RevenueCat for subscription management and entitlement validation
Apple for App Store services (including payments and system diagnostics/analytics where applicable)

Third-party use is governed by their own privacy practices.

4. Where Your Data Is Stored

Your app data used for blocklists, interventions, quote history, and onboarding/profile responses is stored locally on your device.

Subscription and entitlement data are processed through Apple and RevenueCat.

5. Data Retention

On-device data: Remains on your device until you delete it (for example, by uninstalling the app or resetting relevant settings, if available).
Subscription data: Retained according to Apple/App Store and RevenueCat needs for subscription management and billing.

6. Your Privacy Choices

To remove local data: Uninstalling Preface removes on-device stored data.
To manage subscriptions: You can manage or cancel your subscription in your iPhone's settings under your Apple ID / Subscriptions.

7. Children's Privacy

Preface is rated 4+ on the App Store. We encourage parents/guardians to supervise children's use. Because the app stores some onboarding/profile responses locally, a parent/guardian may contact us at contact@thepreface.app if they believe a child has provided information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a new "Effective Date." Continued use of Preface after updates take effect means you accept the updated policy.
